I just learned from Jonathan Queen's facebook status that great American painter George Tooker died on Sunday at the age of ninety (1920-2011.) You can read about it here. He's probably best known for his awkward and claustrophobic subway scenes, but he had another side that was to me quite touching and humanistic. Here are some of my personal favorites by the man. Enjoy and celebrate his life and work.
