Pietro Annigoni, (1910-1988) is the first dead painter to be featured here. Here is his page on Artrenewal. In my opinion Annigoni was the greatest painter of the Middle to late twentieth century, and his importance in art history is shamefully underrated. Most people I have spoken of on this blog are directly indebted to him. My point here is not to defend that position but to share samples of his work with both those who know it and those who are hearing of him for the first time.
Notice the piece of cardboard from a Coke box nailed to the cross. Brilliant.
